Will Democrats Destroy Wisconsin’s Economic Recovery in November?

Republican Scott Walker is no stranger to controversy. He was elected to the governorship of Wisconsin in 2010 on the campaign promised of cutting the state’s deficit and balancing the budget and he did just that.

After being sworn into office, Walker jumped right in to the budget issues and like a responsible businessman he knew he had to make drastic cuts and changes in order keep his campaign promises. He knew that making necessary cuts always angers those it affects, but he also knew that they had to be made in order to save his state.

Walker cut $1 billion from the state’s two year education budget and $500 from the state’s two year Medicaid budget. The most controversial move Walker made was to strip most of the collective bargaining powers of the unions representing state employees which includes teachers.

Anyone that steps on the toes of unions is in for a fight. It’s like flashing the wrong gang signs on the streets of Los Angeles and other cities and the unions came out swinging. They spent millions of dollars in a recall election to try to oust Walker, but Walker prevailed and won the recall election 53% to 46% against his Democratic challenger.

In his four and half short years as governor of Wisconsin, Walker has reduced the state’s deficit and balanced the budget as he promised. His economic policies have generated hundreds of thousands of new jobs and is being credited with reviving whole communities. Wisconsin is starting to prosper under Walker’s leadership.

But Democrats can’t stand prosperity and successful programs. They can’t stand the fact that thousands more people are working and supporting their families. They can’t stand to see the state government get out of debt and become financially sound.

They have launched a massive campaign this year to oust Walker. They have pit Walker against Mary Burke, former Secretary of Commerce under former Democratic Governor Jim Doyle. Although under Doyle and Burke’s regime, Wisconsin fell further into debt and lost thousands of jobs, they are still rallying around her to beat Walker and the polls indicate she just might succeed.

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll indicates that Walker and Burke are almost even with less than 3 months to go before the election. They report that Walker holds a 1 point lead, 48% to 47%. The poll also showed that 52% of the people approve of the job Walker is doing.

All indications show that the election will come down to how many Republicans and Democrats will actually vote in November. The unions and other liberal Democrats are again spending millions to defeat the successful governor. They are also working like mad to get as many people as possible to register to vote as Democrats. If the 2008 and 2012 national and state elections are any indication, I’m sure the Democrats will be pulling out every trick in the book to cast as many illegal votes as possible in order to defeat Walker as there are slightly more registered Republicans in the state than there are Democrats.

The bottom line is that Democrats and the unions want to return to the old ways of out of control deficit spending and the loss of thousands of jobs. They would rather see hundreds to thousands of Wisconsin residents lose their homes, declare bankruptcy and rely on the state for handouts than to see them working and supporting themselves.

Come November, this will be the governor’s race to follow. Who will win? People who want to prosper or those who want to destroy lives?
